So, do you want to spend your 5 day residential with us all at Kirklees Summer Play Camp?
You must be 16 or over to apply for the D of E Aspiring Leaders. To apply for the 2023 D of E Aspiring Leaders Programme:
Your skills and learning
You will be paired with an experienced group leader who will guide you through your time with us and you will spend most of your time working with children. Along with the rest of the staff you will also help with cooking, serving and clearing up. We will help you to think about the skills you need to develop and tailor some of your activities to this so you can make the most of your time with us. If you would like to, there may be a possibility to plan and lead an activity with other young leaders. Most importantly, apart from your learning, you will leave us knowing that you have made a difference to the lives of children on an experience they will remember for a long time.
Coming to Camp
Volunteers should arrive at the camp site at 11:30am. A pick up can be made from Darton Rail Station by prior arrangement. Please call or text 07745 284983 to arrange this. If you are travelling a long distance by train give us a call to discuss the best travel and pick up options. If you wish you can return by the children’s coaches to Dewsbury Bus Station. If space allows there may be the possibility of travelling to Huddersfield Bus Station – this will be organised during the time that you are at Camp.
The cost for each D of E volunteer is £100.00 which includes all meals, refreshments (lots of crisps, biscuits and pop!), the use of a tent and roll mat and personal support throughout your time with us. If you are from a low income family we offer a subsidised place for £50.00. Choose the subsidised place form when booking.
The working induction on 23rd July will start with a briefing about summer camp followed by a tour of the site. Parents are welcome to attend this session. After that we would really value the help of D of E's in pitching tents and getting the site ready for children. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. We understand that some volunteers may be able to attend the working induction due to distance or family commitments. If so let us know so we can share information with you.
One big rule at camp is - No bare feet outside of tents - so bring a couple of different pairs of footwear like trainers and flip flops. Wellies or hikingboots would be better if the weather looks like it will be wet.
A Handy Handbook
Lots of volunteers go onto have successful experiences at college, university and beyond - using the valuable and transferable skills from Summer Camp. The majority of our full time camp staff successfully completed the D of E Aspriring Leaders Programme. Could You Be Next ?
