Dear Parents and Carers,

We are really pleased to let you know that we are able to run summer camp this year. As you can imagine we have spent a great deal of time pouring over the guidance and writing our risk assessments so that we can keep everyone as safe as possible and try and stop Covid coming to camp. We are a small volunteer team so if the team gets Covid the camp cannot run. This means that we need your help to try and save the holidays of over 450 children.

It is very important that you do not send your child to camp if they have Covid symptoms, are feeling under the weather or have been in contact with someone with Covid. We can move their booking or offer a full refund but we cannot take any risk. Please can we ask you to read the guidance below and support us in our actions.

  • We strongly encourage you to undertake a lateral flow test with your child/children the evening or morning before they come to camp. These are readily available from your local chemist or online. If you would like to discuss this further please get in touch. We will ask you to tell us whether they have had a test when you drop them off;

  • Only one person to drop off or collect the child and maintain social distancing while in the bus station;

  • Please wear a face mask when dropping your child off and when speaking to our volunteers;

  • Our volunteers will wear a mask when collecting your child and while on the bus;

  • With your agreement we will encourage children to wear a mask on the bus and spare masks will be available;

  • We will do a temperature check before the children get on the bus. If their temperature is above 38 they will not be able to attend camp. They can come later after a negative PCR test, move to another camp or you can have a full refund;

  • While at camp we will do a temperature check of all our volunteers and children at the start of each day. If anyone has a raised temperature we will seek your permission to do a lateral flow test. If it is positive they will be isolated and you will be asked to collect them. If you do not wish your child to have a test they will need to go home because of the raised temperature;

  • Anyone, volunteer or child, who has Covid symptoms will go home;

  • Close contacts, which will be those who share a tent, will also have to go home and isolate;

  • When you collect your child at the end of camp please wear a face mask;

  • Keep checking facebook, twitter and our website for updates on our Covid position. We may have to close at very short notice.

Our detailed risk assessments are posted on the grown ups page of the website. This sets out the other measures we are taking while camp is running to reduce the risk of infection.

We are sorry that that this sounds restrictive but these are strange times - hopefully next year it will feel safer.

Many thanks for your support

Duncan and Jane and the Summer Camp Team
